From 1968 Better Homes & Gardens

Sift together 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp. soda, 1/2 tsp. salt, and 1 cup granulated sugar into a bowl. Add 1/2 cup butter, softened, 1 egg, 1 tsp. vanilla, and two 1-oz. squares unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled. Blend mixture till smooth, about 2 minutes (dough will be very stiff). Add 1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats and 1/2 cup chopped pecans, mixing thoroughly till dough is well blended.

Shape by hand or drop from a teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Flatten with the bottom of a glass dipped in flour. Bake at 350F about 12 minutes. Makes 3 dozen cookies.
